Tom's Games diary - Ultima Ascension

Cover Ultima Anyone who follows my diary regularly posts should now have noticed that I'm on an absolute retro trip. In a forthcoming posts I will also once again the full extent of this, Let's call it retro-stage show with photographs. Today I would like to write about my first experience with Ultima IX.

as Ultima IX came out, it was the first large 3D role-playing game, as we know it today. Before the Gothic could be seen in the 3rd-person view, a huge open world to explore in full 3D and has boundless adventure. When it was released but according to several magazines at that time very much bugged and needed a killer computer play halfway decently can. Hence appears the Bugdichte such role-playing genre to just be affective. But for me was the real obstacle, not to play Ultima, that I had not said killer computer. According to the packaging was a Pentium 2 with 400 MHz, 256 MB RAM, 2 GB hard drive, 8x CD-ROM drive and a 3D accelerator card with 16 MB recommended. The absolute madness. I only had a 486 with 4 MB Ram. ; (

But now I have, as usual, ordered on Amazon Marketplace, Ultima IX as a used games and for only 10 € including postage I had to wait a little while and watch the prices, but then was sought my offer. there. What can I say, when I opened the package, there are small tears crept into my eyes. I knew that the seller had indicated that the game is in its original box available. But that all items are included at that time was for me a mad surprise. Marveled at the image I have added this blog. You can see the box, the CD case, a poster of the tapestry of time (compared to times the screenshot from the museum in the game), a set of cards with the virtues by which it determines its character values in the game and the highlight of the package, a cloth map of Britannia. But this horny map, was the purchase price alone is worth it.

Playfully I was amazed how cool the game actually working today. I certainly miss some convenience features, but that the mood in the game and the attention to detail is fantastic. Also, the graphic style like it very much. Everything is a bit square (to the truth to say, very angular) and vision might be a tad higher, but the architecture and design of the environments just did a wonderful job. I actually hit the screenshot button continuously just to hold these great screens, especially that everything is so colorful is really good. Thus the world seems even more for a fantasy adventure. The characters are all already set to music, which back then was not necessarily standard for an RPG of this size.

scenes from Tutrial of Ultima IX:

miraculously runs Ultima me under Vista almost error-free. I am only crashed 2-3 times sporadically, and then I had a bug in which a story was not trigger fires correctly, but overall I had the very first Gothic more problems in this respect. So far, it certainly was not fun braking and I've even healed the first shrine. A fantastic adventure with really great upper world and fantastic dungeon design. My advice, this title should definitely be made up of every adventurer.
